Today is a monumental day in our home. My oldest daughter (age 11) got her first 'real' cell phone. I say 'real' because her first cell phone was a MiGo (by LG through Verizon). She is totally stoked about her phone. She is now able to text, know her cell number, call others, and play games on HER phone instead of borrowing ours (I'm sure I will miss her asking for my phone). To top that off once we pulled in our driveway, I noticed a surplus of children in the street. I was compelled to ask her did she want to go out. This is a rarity in our home (to be out front without direct supervision). Of course, this was icing on her cake! This was really hard for me as I grew up in an environment where this was prohibited and the times of our country are highly unsafe, and...well that's enough for me! While she was out I tried to wash a few dishes but I checked the window several times before taking camp at the dining room table (with my laptop of course) where I had a bird’s eye view of her. Everything went fine, thank God. She had a blast, playing ball, riding a mini motor bike, and just chilling on the curb with neighborhood kidos.
Life is funny. Just yesterday, I did her hair in two ponytails only to realize that I made her look like a ‘big girl baby’. I am yet to change them; it’s a very visual reminder of how quickly our offspring grow-up. It’s a tender reminder of how important it is to cherish our days together; the good & not so good ones! The day will come when we will have to send them off into this cold sinful world to begin the work God planned for them. My biggest prayer is that I fulfill my call as a mother, caregiver, and teacher to my babies. I dream of the day when I can hear Him say, “well done my good & faithful servant”! While I believe that intellect is important; what is most important is their connection with Christ & their desire to live a life that is pleasing to God. If I can fan the flame that is instilled within them in this area…everything else will come naturally.
Are your children burdens or blessings? God considers them gifts to us; Psalm 127:3-5 NLT says: 3 Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him. 4 Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands. 5 How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them! He will not be put to shame when he confronts his accusers at the city gates. .
We should see them as such also, gifts!. We wouldn’t refuse any other gift the Lord wanted to give us, would we? When we twist our Biblical view with the Worlds view we begin to see things that confuse us, depress us, entice us and annoy us.
Did you know that a quiver could hold about 12 arrows? So, does this mean God wants everyone to have 12 children? No, but what it does mean is that God believes children are more precious and more valuable than most Americans would like to believe! God can open & close the womb as He sees fit, according to His will. It’s all over the Bible. When we choose to play God in this area it just shows God that we don’t trust Him ‘that much’.
He will give us grace for every moment and provide all our needs. All we need to do is believe!
Until Next Time,

Freedom is a great notion but without balance and purpose, a person will self-destruct.
When we chase money, we run away from God!
