So , I just finished reading Luke 19:1-10, the story of Zacchaeus. I have been saved since I was 8 years old, speaking in tongues around the same age however I must admit the only thing I knew about Zacchaeus was that he was a short man who climbed in a tree to see Jesus and I vaguely remember a church song related to his story.
Isn’t it funny how we say we want to be used by Christ, we say we want to change the world for Jesus but we put so little time into reading the Word. We stuff ourselves with so much worldly knowledge that we when it’s time to feast on Biblical foundations, we are too full and we tell ourselves, we’ll have that tomorrow. The problem is tomorrow never comes or we choose to fill up on the world again and we repeat the cycle. All the while literally tomorrow never came for someone, and what if we missed the opportunity to share Jesus with that person. I’m guilty of it too. I can tell you about fitness, whole foods, and herbs all day long but ask me what the book of Amos is about and I have no idea.
See, the beautiful thing about God is that when He brings you the opportunity to change, He doesn’t condemn you but He convicts your heart with a gentle nudge, all you have to do is recognize it, remove the hindrance, and restore a right behavior. It’s just that simple when you truly desire to change otherwise it’s a battle, kind of like people trying to lose weight!
How wonderful is God, he cared for me when I despised Him and loves on me when I need it most.
Ok, so back to Zacchaeus..Here are the themes or main ideas that I will study on while I wait to hear from God:
1. If you have a problem, don’t give up so easily. Think of various ways to solve it.
2. The Gospel is universal and available for all. Salvation, Salvation, Salvation.
3. Jesus hung out with sinners (how else could He reach em).
4. The love or desire for wealth can lead to corrupt & prideful living.
5. Give to the poor.
Freedom is a great notion but without balance and purpose, a person will self-destruct.
When we chase money, we run away from God!
