My, my…How times have changed. This is a statement many of us hear often from our parents & grandparents. This age of technology had swept our previous generations off their feet and caused many of them to feel old or out-dated. This got me to thinking I wonder how times will continue to change and what must I do to keep up. The reality is that some things are really going to continue to advance. For my husband and I well we have a built in plan for being up on the generation shifts. With 5 kiddos ranging from 12 to 3 months, we have no choice but to stay on top of things. Education & community involvement will also keep us aware. Some changes aren’t so good though. Growing up I always had a heart for the homeless. My grandmother would fuss at me many the times for walking away from her to give my drink, my snack or my ‘church offering’ to the man or woman sitting outside the store. I am now an adult and the desire to help only grows stronger, it only gets deeper.
The population of the homeless & orphaned community continues to swell. While a lot of advancement has been made in our world, these are two areas that receive so little continued support. Listen, I know it’s not always easy to think outside of your own needs. I also know that Thanksgiving & Christmas are times of the year when everyone’s heart hurts for the less fortunate. We get fired up about ‘making a difference’, we want to be a hero to these abandoned men, women & children but after our New Years parties the fire for serving is out and ‘our personal’ New Year’s Resolutions are in. For some people they just need guidance to understand how and where they can serve.
